The Council of Europe warned on Tuesday against arms sales to the Zionist entity, calling on
its 46 member states to ensure that they are not used in the context of human rights violations
in Gaza, which has been subjected to genocidal aggressions since October 2023.
In a statement, the Council of Europe’s human rights commissioner, Michael O’Flaherty,
reiterated his call to member countries to “do everything possible to prevent and respond to
violations of international humanitarian law and human rights,” in the context of the ongoing
assaults on the Palestinian enclave.
“This includes applying existing legal standards to ensure that arms transfers are not allowed
when there is a risk that they will be used to commit violations” of fundamental rights, the
commissioner wrote.
Last week, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz decided to suspend arms exports
